Performance meets precision: Elite cyclists score a new training edge through a new partnership between Human Powered Health and Momentous

Human Powered Health, a human performance company with labs that offer athletic performance and health assessments, has partnered with wellness and nutrition company Momentous.

Human Powered Health Cycling, U.S.-based Women’s WorldTour professional cycling team, is one organization that will benefit from the initiative, where its athletes will have access to Momentous’ NSF Certified for Sport products, comprehensive physiological assessments from the Human Powered Health Performance Lab and a hyper-personalized training and recovery program.

“Our team strives to push the limits of human performance,” Human Powered Health Cycling’s team trainer Callum McQueen said. “This partnership provides us with the resources and expertise to do just that. Supplementation is key for many sports, but especially in cycling due to its high demands on the body. Momentous’ line of products is ideal because we will use them to aid recovery and promote additional key nutrients that athletes can’t get from food alone.”

Human Powered Health clients and email subscribers will also be able to purchase Momentous products at a 15% discount within the performance labs and online. Human Powered Health has labs in Boston and Wellesley, Minneapolis and Scottsdale.

“At Momentous, we are committed to providing athletes with the highest quality, most effective nutrition solutions,” Momentous founder and CEO Jeff Byers said. “Partnering with Human Powered Health allows us to directly empower elite cyclists on their journey to peak performance by integrating our products into their approach to training and racing. We are excited to support Human Powered Health in all facets of this partnership.”

Last year, consumer-focused investment firm Humble Growth acquired a significant minority stake in the Utah-based Momentous

Former athletes undergo a significant transition after the end of their careers, which the company hopes to facilitate through partnerships with fitness studios

AthletEX is a brand devoted to providing a community for former athletes. Founded by CEO Taylor Cohen, the company helps to bridge the gap between former athletes and the athlete-minded. AthletEX has strategically aligned with some boutique fitness studios in NYC to offer a wellness experience beyond traditional fitness memberships.

AthletEX partners with fitness studios such as Tone House, Barry’s, AARMY, 54D, Training Lab, Swish House, and Ice Cold Club. These collaborations allow AthletEX members to access a diverse range of workout styles and wellness activities.

“We’ve carefully curated partnerships that align with our mission to support active, ambitious, and fulfilling lifestyles,” Cohen told Athletech News. “Each of these studios brings something unique to the table, whether it’s the high-intensity training at Tone House, the immersive workouts at Barry’s, or the specialized programs at AARMY and 54D. These partnerships are designed to help our athletes maintain the high level of performance and discipline they’re used to, even after their competitive sports careers have ended.”

This summer, AthletEX launched the “Summer Fitness Passport.” The campaign rewarded members for attending events across various partner studios.

“The Summer Fitness Passport is our way of offering a new take on traditional membership clubs,” said Cohen. “It’s designed to reward our members for their dedication to maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle, while also introducing them to new fitness experiences. By attending different events and classes at our partner studios, members can tailor their wellness journey to their personal goals, all while staying connected to a community of like-minded individuals.”

The “Summer Fitness Passport” campaign has been particularly successful in fostering a sense of community and engagement among members. “We’re bridging the gap between athletes and the athlete-minded by creating opportunities for them to connect, challenge themselves, and grow together,” Cohen added. “Whether it’s a high-energy session at Swish House or a recovery-focused event like our monthly ‘cool down’ series with Ice Cold Club, there’s something for everyone.”

With the success of the “Summer Fitness Passport” and ongoing collaborations with top boutique fitness studios, AthletEX is poised to expand its partnership model even further. “We’re continuously exploring new ways to enhance the athlete experience,” Taylor shared. “Our partnerships are not just about providing access to great workouts; they’re about building a comprehensive wellness ecosystem that supports our members in every aspect of their lives.”

The kinesiology tape and recovery brand had expanded its product line earlier this spring to support CGM users

Just in time for football season, kinesiology tape and recovery brand KT has released a new product, KT Turf Tape, designed to protect football players from turf burns while providing much-needed pain relief and muscle support.

Over the years, kinesiology tape has become a staple for athletes, personal trainers and rehab specialists for its ability to reduce pain and improve blood flow.

KT Tape CEO Jessica Klodnicki says the company is eager to expand into a new segment within the football market with KT Turf Tape.

“This product not only extends our product range but also underscores our commitment to innovation and delivering the highest-quality solutions to empower athletes’ performance at all levels,” she said.

The latex-free KT Turf Tape, $19.99, is easy to apply, sweat and water-resistant, and available in black and white.

In addition to several kinesiology tape options, the Utah-based brand offers health products such as magnesium creams for muscles, ice sleeves, pain relief gels and roll-ons, ice/heat massage balls, an electromagnetic pain relief device and more.

Earlier this year, KT expanded its health line to include continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and insulin pump patches that offer medical-grade adhesion and durability, as CGMs have become the next wearable.

“Expanding our KT Health Line of recovery products underscores our commitment to providing comprehensive solutions for individuals seeking to stay active so they can feel their best,” Klodnicki said in May. “These products underscore our commitment to empowering individuals managing diabetes with solutions that enhance comfort, reliability and peace of mind in their daily lives.”

Founded in 2008, the company rebranded last April with a shortened name, a new campaign — “Crush Every Moment” — and a revamped look with recyclable, eco-friendly packaging, updated graphics, educational tools and a free app that helps consumers learn how to apply its products like the pros.

The new KT Turf Tape and other products can be purchased on the KT Tape website, Amazon and Academy Sports.

Popularity of vegan-type diets is expanding products among traditional suppliers and new contenders.

Many Americans don’t think of the words “athlete” and “vegetarian” in the same sentence, but the fact is more and more sports folks worldwide have adopted such diets. Now athletes and trainers can be even happier, ‘cause all indications are that the food alternatives will only keep growing. A new report from Bloomberg Intelligence indicates its projection that in less than a decade—by 2030—the plant-based food market will reach $162 billion, far beyond its current value of just under $30 billion.

The report, Plant-Based Foods Poised for Explosive Growth, notes that these additions will come from far more providers than just from traditional food giants like Kellogg and Nestlé. Numerous newbies keep entering this area, such as Beyond Meat, Impossible Foods, and Oatly.

Athletes exploring diet changes keeps growing

Anyone who thinks the trend towards plant-based diets is new in the States is misinformed. Olympic sprinter Carl Lewis went vegan in 1991 so as to enhance his efforts in that year’s World Championships. Tennis great Martina Navratilova, and football legend Joe Namath are others who’ve been on such a diet.

In 2018 The Tennessee Titans noted that 11 of its players were vegan. Linebacker Wesley Woodyard, a pork-lover from Georgia, admits he thought it was crazy but is glad he got convinced. As he told the Associated Press, “My energy level’s gone up. And it’s just putting in good fuel to your body.”

Today in America, soccer player Alex Morgan, mixed martial artist Mac Danzig, and powerlifter Bradie Crandall are a few athletes who are on plant-based diets. Around the world one can find many others, including cricket leader Adam Zampa, Australian cyclist Adam Hansen, and retired Canadian hockey player TJ Galiardi.

Savvy substitutions make plant- and meat-based diets equal

The key to athletes’ success in going plant-based are two-fold. First, there’s what everyone must determine: whether they’ll be a vegetarian or a vegan. Vegan is the stricter option, eliminating not just meats, seafood, and animal-based stocks or fats, but also eggs, dairy products, even honey. However there are some variations, such as the “lacto-vegetarian,” who will not eat meat, seafood, or eggs, but will stick with dairy foods.

Then athletes must determine how they’ll maintain their exceptional strength needs. As a Cleveland Clinic dietitian explains online, “Amino acids are crucial for muscle repair and rebuilding, bone health and immunity,” and so of course they are elements especially important for athletic strength.

Finding these and other needed elements in plants takes more work. Nuts, soy milk, and tofu are just a few plants holding proteins, while athletes can glean their iron needs from resources that include berries and melons, peppers, and tomatoes.

Bloomberg’s report emphasizes interest in plant-based diets among all consumers is not a short-term trend. “…Plant-based alternatives are here to stay – and grow,” Bloomberg analyst Jennifer Bartashus said. She added: “Our…analysis suggests that the plant-based food industry has the potential to become ingrained as a viable option in supermarkets and restaurants alike.”
